Putin and Medvedev to discuss development of transport system in southern Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will take part in the session of the State Council’s presidium in Kerch in eastern Crimea, devoted to the development of transport system in southern Russia.

The president plans to inspect the construction of the Kerch Strait Bridge, which is expected to open in December 2018 and connect Crimea’s Kerch to mainland Russia.

The Kremlin press service said that Thursday’s session of the State Council, an advisory body dealing with the issues of the highest importance, will focus on measures aimed at comprehensive development of the transport infrastructure of the Southern Federal District.

"The main topics will be forming parts of international transport corridors in Russia’s south to ensure export-import transportation and international transit, as well as implementing large investment projects on the territory of the Southern Federal District on reconstruction and construction of facilities of port, road, railroad and airport infrastructure envisaged by the Russian Transport Strategy until 2030," the Kremlin added.

The members of the State Council’s presidium which is formed from governors on a rotational basis, and other officials will also take part in the session.
