Putin and Obama to meet on September 28

The White House has confirmed that a meeting will take place between US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Russia and Eurasia on the National Security Council, Celeste Wallander, announced that talks between the two leaders will be held on September 28 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also confirmed this information, adding that the dialogue between the two presidents will be held by mutual request.

At the same time, White House spokesman Josh Ernest said that "the president will emphasize once again that Russia doubling down on support for Assad is a losing bet that doesn't serve the interests of either the Russian people or the American people."

The last one-on-one talks between the two leaders took place in November 2014.

Obama will also hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss climate change, as well with Cuban President Raul Castro.
