The meeting of the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the US President Donald Trump would be a good opportunity to discuss the hottest issues - both international and bilateral, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Peskov said that the time, place and format of such a meeting was still being discussed and that a Friday meeting was only a possibility.
"As for the content of the meeting, there is no agreed agenda," Reuters cited Peskov as saying.
Given that both Trump and Putin will attend the APEC summit, Peskov said that their paths would cross one way or another.
Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov said earlier today that Putin will meet with Trump in Vietnam on November 10. He added that the time is being agreed on.
A senior research fellow at the European Research Centre of the International Relations Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladimir Olenchenko, speaking with Vestnik Kavkaza, noted that the main topic of the meeting of the presidents will be the issue of bilateral relations, since the solution of many international problems depends on it.
"The first issue on the agenda is the normalization of bilateral relations and the restoration of the mechanism for negotiations, consultations and the development of some common approaches," the expert explained.
The second issue of the meeting between Putin and Trump will be the Syrian question. "The territory of Syria is already liberated, so the issue of peaceful settlement is at the forefront," Olenchenko added.
According to him, the Ukrainian crisis will also be on their agenda. "The Ukrainian side does not fulfill its obligations under the Minsk agreements, but at the same time it is trying to raise tension in Russian-Ukrainian relations. On November 16, a vote will be held on the so-called reintegration of Donbass," the expert explained, adding that Kurt Walker's appointment as US special representative on Ukraine speaks of Washington's willingness to openly discuss this issue.
The fourth topic, according to Olenchenko, will be the problem of North Korea and its weapons of mass destruction. According to him, the parties will also make an attempt to find compromises on this issue.
At the same time he stressed that Trump is ready for talks with Putin, despite the resistance to his policies inside the United States.
"Trump is an experienced businessman, he is really under internal pressure in the US from his political rivals and various business groups, but at the same time he is trying to implement those slogans that he proclaimed earlier," the expert explained.
The main outcome of the meeting between Putin and Trump, according to Olenchenko, should be the development of concrete measures and steps aimed at improving relations between Moscow and Washington. According to him, expert meetings, within which the parties will be able to exchange opinions and discuss topical issues, can become such a tool.
