Putin gives start to operation of two Crimean TPPs with full capacity

Russian President Vladimir Putin has given a start to operation of Balaklavskaya and Tavricheskaya thermal power plants (TPP) in Crimea with full capacity.

First power units of both thermal power plants were put into service last October.

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, Energy Minister Alexander Novak, head of Crimea Sergei Aksenov and Chief Executive of the Rostec state corporation Sergei Chemezov attended the official ceremony of new power units start, TASS reported.

The total capacity of two TPPs in Crimea has grown to 940 MW as a result of second units’ commissioning, amounting to about 90% of consumption in the region. The overall power capacity of Crimea net of wind and solar power plants and mobile gas-turbine power plants will be about 2,070 MW, fully covering needs of the peninsula subject to redundancy and providing the opportunity to transmit power to other regions.
