Russian President Vladimir Putin refuted the assertion of the Armenian journalist that the Russian-Armenian relations are ruined and Russia should restore them.
A journalist from an Armenian newspaper asked how Russia plans to restore its relations with Armenia after the snap elections held in December, the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reported.
The president criticized such a wording. "Why should we restore them? There is nothing to restore here. We have smooth relations with Armenia, it is our strategic partner in the region as well as in the world; Armenia is CSTO and Eurasian Economic Union member. We need to develop what has been created by previous leadership."
Vladimir Putin noted that the Armenian people are Russia's closest ally in South Caucasus. "We should proceed from the realities of the current situation both in the world and region," the head of state said, noting that he will discuss prospects of Russian-Armenian relations with Armenia's acting Prime Minster Pashinyan, who is set to come next week.
