Putin signs INF Treaty suspension into law

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the federal law to suspend the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty. A relevant document was posted today on the official legal information website.

"Suspend the [INF] Treaty between the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the United States of America on the elimination of their medium- and short-range missiles, signed in Washington on December 8, 1987," the document reads.

The U.S. formally suspended its obligations under the INF Treaty on February 2, over alleged violations by Russia, and triggered a six-month withdrawal process. Moscow denied the accusations, saying that it was Washington that breached the deal.
