RSUH celebrates quarter-century anniversary

25 years have passed since the opening of the Russian State University for the Humanities. A meeting of the Academic Council took place today in honor of this event. Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Dmitry Livanov came to congratulate the university on the anniversary. Academicians and professors of the university also attended the event, the rector of the Russian State Humanitarian University Yevgeny Ivakhnenko said.

"Now our university is a source of manpower, a so-called resource center of humanitarian education in Russia. The university is recognized by the Ministry of Education," Yevgeny Ivakhnenko proudly said. We are training students in accordance with 39 undergraduate educational programs and 28 spheres of graduate ones.

Former rector and current president of the Russian State Humanitarian University, Yefim Pivovar, told in an interview with a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza that this is a significant date for one of the oldest leading humanitarian universities of Russia.

"The university was developing during 25 years, but of course the educational institution has a much greater history, taking into account the fact that the Historical Archives Institute is 85 years old, and the building where Shanyavsky University was created is more than 100 years old.

But the 25-year history was extremely dynamic. The university was created as one of the first humanitarian projects in Russia. The first bachelors and masters programs were announced at our university. The first international centers of such a high level were created here. The Center for Doctoral Training also appeared about two years ago.

It is important that we have managed to create a unique educational institution on a good foundation where all humanitarian spheres are represented. I would say it is a classic plan of the majority of social Sciences and Political Science fields, as well as a lot of areas at the intersection of the humanities and natural sciences,'' President of the Russian State Humanitarian University said.

"By the way, we also tried to create scientific departments for the first time. The Institute of Higher Humanitarian Studies, the Institute of Oriental and Classical Studies are projects that were created for the first time in our university. They have certainly justified themselves, despite the fact that they were expensive," Yefim Pivovar said.

The President of the Russian State Humanitarian University said that the university has been implementing projects with the participation of the South Caucasus countries and the republics of the North Caucasus.
