In Istanbul, near the office of the Turkish opposition newspaper Zaman, a spontaneous protest action in support of it is being held.
Protesters are chanting slogans "Hands off our newspaper" and "A free press cannot be silenced" and demand that the authorities stop the persecution of opposition media and to provide guarantees for freedom of speech.
They believe that the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is behind the campaign on restriction of freedom of the press.
