The Republican Party of Armenia refused to nominate its candidate for the post of prime minister after the resignation of Nikol Pashinyan, a move needed for dissolution of the current parliament and holding snap polls.
In its statement the party said it remains committed to its intention not to interfere the performance of the government, adding that regarding the extraordinary parliamentary elections, it has repeatedly voiced its opposition to holding them before the end of this year.
"We are not against early elections, the responsibility for which lies entirely with the Armenian government. In our view, a reasonable time frame for holding extraordinary parliamentary elections is either May or June next year," ARKA cited the statement as saying.
The party argued that under current conditions it is impossible to discuss the reform of the Electoral Code with all parliamentary and non-parliamentary forces, public organizations, representatives of international structures operating in Armenia, embassies, the Venice Commission and the OSCE, which is necessary for the formation of a parliament worthy of a country with parliamentary governance.
