Rescuers find body of tourist amid floods in Georgia’s north-east

Professionals from Georgia’s Emergency Management Service on Monday discovered the body of a tourist amid rescue works underway in the  flood-hit north-eastern mountainous Pshavi province.

The Service said the tourist had been hit by mudflow and thrown into River Aragvi while travelling on a motorcycle. The rescuers launched search efforts involving fire and rescue departments in difficult terrain complicating the work.

The search-and-rescue efforts were successfully concluded later on the day, when the body of the missing traveller was found.

Heavy rain hit 18 villages in the north-eastern Dusheti municipality on Monday, causing landslides and damaging sections of roads and a central highway. Emergency professionals rescued dozens from the location earlier during the day.
