Russia has added more than 300 Canadian citizens to its sanction list, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.

According to the ministry, following the principle of unavoidable punishment, and in response to Ottawa's hostile actions, the Russian side has placed 333 representatives of the Canadian leadership, parliamentarians, politicians of various levels, civil society activists, and athletes on its entry ban list.

"This measure is designed to encourage those on the black list to change their behaviour," the ministry said in a statement.

The list of Canadians subject to Russian sanctions currently includes more than 1,500 individuals and is available on the Foreign Ministry website.
