Russia and Armenia to ease cargo and passenger transit

Armenia's government approved the intergovernmental agreement with Russia on international road transport at today's meeting, which will allow developing and facilitating passenger and cargo communication between the two countries and transit through their territory, taking into account the provisions of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union.

"Interstate regular and non-scheduled passenger traffic will be carried out in the presence of permits, which the authorities of the two countries will exchange annually," the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technologies of Armenia, Vahan Martirosyan, said.

The minister added that the document provides for cargo transportation between the two countries without additional authorizations, with the exception of cargoes from the EEU non-members to states that are not stipulated by the agreement. At the same time, within the framework of the agreement, transport companies engaged in cargo and passenger transit in the territory of two states will be mutually exempt from payments levied for the ownership and operation of the vehicle in the territory of another country. The exception will be those cases when the legislation of another state does not provide for other provisions, ARKA reported.
