Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian leader Vladimir Putin agreed to supply free food to countries in need, the Turkish leader said.
"During our talks with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, we agreed to ship grain free of charge to countries in need. We agree with Putin that Africa should benefit from the Black Sea grain corridor. We will ensure that dry cargo ships with grain reach countries currently suffering from a severe food crisis and famine", Erdoğan said on Friday.
He also said that he had discussed this issue with UN Secretary General António Guterres and expressed his intention to raise the issue of food supply to African countries at the upcoming G20 summit in Bali.
According to Erdoğan, the West is trying to teach lessons of humanity, ignoring the suffering and hunger of people in Africa. "The suffering of millions of people is ignored. <…> Unfortunately, no efforts have been made to put an end to these tragedies, which cause millions of deaths. It is shameful that Western countries, which give lessons of humanity to the rest of the world, remain indifferent to this tragedy", the Turkish leader said.
