Russian-Turkish consultations were held in Ankara yesterday, one of the main topics of which was the development of the situation in Syria, as well as the early formation and launch of a constitutional committee to ensure a stable and effective political settlement, according to the statement published on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the meeting, Russia was represented by Russian special envoy on Syria Alexander Lavrentiev, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Turkey was represented by special adviser to Turkish President İbrahim Kalın and Turkish Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Sedat Onal.
The decision to establish a committee to work out recommendations for amending the Syrian constitution was made at the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi on January 30.
