Today marks 100 years since the MoscowTreaty was signed by representatives of the government of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and the government of Soviet Russia (RSFSR).
Yesterday, on the eve of the anniversary, a conference titled "Relations between Turkey and Russia on the centenary of the conclusion of the Moscow Treaty of March 16, 1921" was held in Ankara. It was attended by Turkish parliament speaker Mustafa Shentop, the rector of Bilkent University, professor Abdullah Atalar, co-chairman of the Turkish-Russian public forum and deputy of ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party Ahmet Berat Conkar, Russian ambassador to Ankara Alexei Erkhov, Anadolu agency reports.
The Russian diplomat in his speech, published on the embassy's Facebook page, drew attention to the very name of the agreement - "Treaty of Friendship and Brotherhood", stressing that such a formulation, which is quite rare in diplomatic practice, clearly "reflects the romantic spirit of that difficult time."
