Russia celebrates Mother's Day

Russia celebrates Mother's Day

Today the whole of Russia celebrates Mother's Day. People began to celebrate this day relatively recently. It was established as a national holiday by the decree of January 30th 1998 of the President of the Russian Federation, Boris Yeltsin. The initiative was expressed by the State Duma Committee for Women, Family and Youth. From that moment on, Mother's Day has become an annual celebration. It is celebrated on the last Sunday of November. This year's Mother's Day falls on November 29th.

In anticipation of this wonderful day, Vestnik Kavkaza talked to senators Irina Gekht, Lyudmila Bokova, Ekaterina Lakhova, Elena Popova and Yulia Veprintseva, who congratulated our readers and all Russians on today's holiday.

The chairwoman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, in her words of congratulation to Russian women, said that "to be a mother is infinite happiness and a great labor, because it is the mother that, from the moment the baby is born takes primary concern for the care of children, their education, preparation for independent living, introduction to indigenous values and traditions."

"On this day I want each of us to remember this maternal feat. To bow to our mothers, grandmothers, to give them at least a fraction of the care and attention that we received from them and still receive. And we, women, should once again remember our main mission – a difficult, but important matter – to be a wife, mother, guardian of the family hearth, a caring and wise mentor to our children," the speaker said.

"It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that a cult of motherhood has emerged in our country. And today, when a woman has huge and varied opportunities for self-realization, the state and society are doing everything to ensure that the mission of the mother was perceived by women as the most important in their lives. Support for mothers, children and families is an immutable priority of the policy of the Russian state. Dear women! Dear mothers! I wish you good health, prosperity and happiness! May your children and loved ones give you their love every day," - Valentina Matviyenko wished.

A member of the Federation Council Committee on the Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs, the chairwoman of Women's Union of Russia, Ekaterina Lakhova, also sent her wishes to women, congratulating them on "a spiritual holiday, Mother's Day". "It's hard to find someone who would not show reverence for his mother and would not be grateful to her for his birth. I want to wish all mothers always to be surrounded by caring close people, for your every day to begin with a smile! Stay beautiful, happy, let a smile shine in your eyes like a bright star. Thanks to all the mothers who gave us life and taught us to appreciate it," she noted.

The Deputy Chairwoman of the Federation Council Committee on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental, Irina Gekht, wished love and happiness to Russian women and mothers.

"If a woman is confident in the future, if she loves herself, then everyone around is happy. And above all, children. And for us, probably, the most important thing is for our children to be happy, healthy, successful. So I wish love and happiness to them and therefore success and health to the children that surround them," she said.

The Deputy Chairwoman of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Construction, Lyudmila Bokova, has sent her congratulations to dear women, noting that "this holiday became a good tradition and takes a special place in the lives of each of us, as it gives the opportunity to express our thanks and boundless gratitude for all that our mothers do for us, for their love, patience and understanding."

"For centuries, the family, as the main element of any society, rested on a mother's love and care, daily work, and boundless devotion to her children. Mom is our first friend, assistant and tutor. Today, support for the institution of the family, the creation of conditions for the growth of the birthrate, mother and child protection and care for large families are priority social tasks of the state. Together we must create the conditions for sustainable prosperity of the family, so that there are more happy mothers, and their children become worthy citizens of their country," - she said.

"Dear women, on this festive day, accept my gratitude, love and respect! From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely wish you and your families happiness, good health and prosperity! Love, be loved and happy," the senator congratulated.

A member of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, Yulia Veprintseva, noted in her congratulatory speech that "being a mother is not only the main happiness in the life of every woman, but also a great responsibility and daily work." "While raising a child, a mother gives all of her love and care. Puts her soul into it. Does everything to ensure that the child grows up a good person, becomes an adult and a worthy citizen of his country. I wish you all health, happiness, prosperity, love, and for every mother to be proud of her son or daughter," she said.

A member of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, Elena Popova, noted that "we all, no matter where we live, in which region of Russia, are mothers." "That is why I believe that this Sunday we all have a holiday – Mother's Day. We wish health, patience, strength in raising your children, to all of you. And, of course, we want to remind you that each of us has our own mother, so these congratulations must be redirected to them," the senator said.
