Today, July 26th, Russia celebrates Navy Day. Traditionally, on the last Sunday of July the Russian Navy sailors celebrate their professional holiday: parades will be held at the main points of Fleet warship bases, demonstrative fights and demonstrations of military technique, in the cities of fleet bases concerts will be held, and fireworks and salutes will conclude the celebration.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoygu congratulated all military personnel and veterans of the Russian Navy on the holiday. "On the last Sunday of July we traditionally congratulate serving military personnel and veterans of the Navy, we congratulate workers of the shipbuilding and ship-repair enterprises and research organizations of the military-industrial complex, all those who are inseparably connected with service at sea," Shoygu stated.
According to him, "The Navy is the main component and basis of the naval capacities of the Russian Federation, one of the most important instruments of the state's foreign policy." The head of the Defense Ministry reminded of the brightest pages inscribed by Navy sailors in the heroic annals of Russia. Their unparalleled heroism brought Russia famous victories at Gangut and Sinop, in the Black Sea battles, near the island of Corfu and in the Dardanelles.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will spend the Day of the Navy in the town of Baltiysk in the Kaliningrad region. The head of state will visit the parade, which will take place in the waters of the Kaliningrad sea shipping channel. The ceremony will be attended by the frigate 'Admiral of the Soviet Fleet Gorshkov', as well as the communications ship 'Yuri Ivanov', on which the flag of St. Andrew will be raised for the first time, which means its inclusion in the combat strength of the Russian Navy.
