Russia celebrates Spring and Labor Day

On Sunday, May 1, Russia celebrates Spring and Labor Day. For the first time in two years, May Day processions will be held in person in a number of Russian regions.

The holidays will last until May 3. A ban on holding public events, including actions, marches, and rallies, based on the mayor's decree on restrictions imposed in connection with the introduction of a high alert regime due to the COVID-19 coronavirus is still in action in Moscow.

Recall that the Day of International Solidarity of Workers was established by the Congress of The Second International (Paris, July 14-21, 1889) in memory of the workers' protest in Chicago (USA) on May 1, 1886, when people demanded an 8-hour working day. Currently, in Russia, it is celebrated as the Holiday of Spring and Labor. In accordance with the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, it is a non-working holiday.
