Russia has no plans to supply electric power to Ukraine

Russia won't prolong the agreement on purchases of electric power to Ukraine after the rejection of purchases of Ukrainian electricity to Crimea, the Kommersant newspaper reports.

The Russian Ministry of Energy confirmed that "Russia isn’t conducting any talks on supplies of electric power from Russia to Ukraine". "We won’t prolong it as it was tied to an agreement on the supplies of Ukrainian electricity to Crimea," the department added.

In 2014, Ukraine purchased electric power from the Russian energy system under an agreement between the companies Inter RAO and Ukrinterenergo, which was effective through to the end of 2015. Simultaneously, the two sides signed an agreement on the purchases of power from Ukraine for Crimea, Kommersant reminds.
