Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov assumes that Russia could remove excess enriched uranium from Iran if the United States returns to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program.
At the same time, he clarified that this issue is still quite abstract, since many aspects of the JCPOA are subject to U.S. sanctions.
According to Ryabkov, it is necessary to make sure that there is a prospect of normalizing the situation, and then return to the topics of the implementation of agreements within the framework of the JCPOA. "I don't rule out anything," TASS cited him as saying.
The deputy foreign minister noted that first of all it is necessary to discuss political issues, including the U.S. "sanctions, which should be lifted as illegitimate," and only then deal with the practical aspects of cooperation. The Deputy Minister also said that Russia's proposals to return to full implementation of the nuclear agreement are still being finalized.
The nuclear deal was reached in July 2015 between a group of world powers: the P5+1 (the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council - the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, France, and China - plus Germany) and Iran. In May 2018, the United States pulled out of the deal and renewed sanctions against Iran.
