Russian transport plane Antonov-26 has crashed in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The plane crashed near Syrian Hmeymim base at 3:00 pm when landing. All people on board of the aircraft, including 26 passengers and six crew members died in the incident, the ministry added.
The plane hit the ground 500 meters short of the runway, RIA Novosti reported.
The ministry added that the technical malfunction was behind the crash,saying the aircraft was not attacked.
The investigation into the incident is underway.
