Russia's Foreign Ministry warns US against ‘playing with fire’ over sanctions

Russia has warned the US against “playing with fire” by imposing new sanctions against Moscow, and vowed that the measures will not succeed in “dictating terms” to the country.

"We continue to watch how the United States is practising the introduction of sanctions against our country. It seems like this has turned into a kind of national entertainment, because yesterday’s were already the 60th anti-Russian measures since 2011," Russia’s deputy minister of foreign affairs Sergei Ryabkov said.

"Dictating their own terms to Russia . . . will never succeed," Ryabkov wrote in a statement posted on the foreign ministry website. "Operators of the Washington sanctions machine are advised to at least superficially familiarise themselves with our history in order to stop fussing around in vain."

"It would be good for them to also recall the concept of global stability, which they thoughtlessly rocked by the escalation of tension in Russian-American relations. Playing with fire is stupid, because it can become dangerous," FT cited him as saying.

The U.S. yesterday added 33 new Russians to a list of sanctioned individuals, alongside a branch of the Chinese military for buying Russian defence products
