Commissioning work is currently in full swing at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant (NPP) in Türkiye. The first of four power units is being prepared for launch.

The progress of work at the NPP under construction has been discussed in Istanbul by Rosatom General Director Alexey Likhachev and the Turkish Minister of Energy Alparslan Bayraktar today.

"Regarding the Akkuyu NPP and its current status: the main efforts are focused on preparing for the launch of the first power unit. We are actively conducting full-scale commissioning work. At the current stage, we are preparing the reactor installation for loading fuel simulators",

Likhachev said.

Türkiye's first NPP will be launched next year. In total, four power units will operate at the facility, but now only the first one will be launched. The station was built with the participation of a Russian state corporation. Negotiations are also underway on Russia's participation in the construction of a second nuclear power plant in Türkiye.
