In the coming weeks, Russia will lease the seaport of Tartus in Syria for 49 years for transport and economic purposes, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said after a meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad.
He noted that the decision to lease the port was made at the meeting of the intergovernmental commission in 2018. The current visit of the Deputy Prime Minister confirmed this agreement. “The trip consolidated all these agreements. We have advanced on this issue and hope that the contract will be signed within a week,” Borisov said.
