Russia’s Gamaleya Center plans to study immunity to monkeypox in people vaccinated against smallpox, the Center’s director, Alexander Gintsburg, said on Thursday.
"We have been tasked to study the current cross-protective immunity to monkeypox in people who were vaccinated against smallpox before 1980," he said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
He also said that Russia’s health ministry is working on guidelines for medics on diagnosis monkeypox, TASS reported.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, organized by the Roscongress Foundation, is running on June 15 through 18. This year’s forum is dubbed: ‘New Opportunities in a New World’. A number of other events will take place beyond the business program, among them are the SME Forum, the Creative Business Forum, the Drug Security Forum, the SPIEF Junior Dialogue and SPIEF Sport Week.
