Russia values Austria’s commitment to developing bilateral ties, says upper house speaker

Russia appreciates Austria’s stance, which is interested in developing mutually advantageous bilateral relations, Speaker of Russia’s Federation Council (upper house of parliament), Valentina Matviyenko, said on Wednesday at a meeting with President of Austria’s National Council (lower house of parliament) Wolfgang Sobotka, TASS reports.

"Russia highly appreciates Austria’s independent stance and its interest in developing mutually beneficial relations between our countries," she said. According to the speaker, Russia views Sobotka’s visit as a confirmation of the Austrian leadership’s policy aimed at a constructive dialogue with Moscow.

"I believe it would be shortsighted to ‘throw under the bus’ all the positive baggage accumulated in our relations, the history of our relations for the sake us the current political situation," she added.
