The Russian Foreign Ministry explained why the grain agreement would be extended for only 60, and not 120 days. As the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted, this was done due to the uneven implementation of the agreements on the deal's second part.
She recalled that the agreements consisted of two parts, as it was originally presented by UN Secretary General António Guterres, but now it could not be said that both these parts are being implemented equally.
Zakharova noted that all explanations for the extension of the grain agreement were announced by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin on March 14. All of these explanations were based on agreements and wording that were written down on paper, she added.
Let us remind that for the first time a grain deal was concluded last summer, and in the autumn it was decided to extend it for 120 days. Today it has become known that the participants of the deal, which expires this Saturday, will extend it for another two months.
