Russian envoy: U.S. unlikely to change position on Nord Stream 2 under Biden

Washington is not likely to change its stance on construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline after Democrat Joe Biden was sworn in as the U.S. president, Russia’s permanent envoy to the EU Vladimir Chizhov said.

"To be perfectly honest, we shouldn’t have much optimism that the US can possibly review its policy regarding Nord Stream 2, so it will be more difficult here," TASS cited him as saying.

On Tuesday, the US authorities expanded the sanction list against Russia. In particular, the restrictions are imposed against the Fortuna vessel engaged in the Nord Stream 2 construction and its owner, KVT-Rus company. Earlier, Biden’s Secretary of State pick Antony Blinken said that the new administration will do everything possible to stop the construction of the gas pipeline and will seek to convince its EU partners that it is necessary.
