Russian gas to be supplied to Armenia through Azerbaijan

Over the next three weeks, Russian gas will be transferred to Armenia through Azerbaijan.

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and Gazprom Export have already signed a short-term contract for transportation.

Scheduled preventive repair work on the North Caucasus - Transcaucasia gas pipeline, which may take about three weeks. During this time, the gas will be transferred through Azerbaijan.

After their completion, gas will be transported along the previous route across the border of the Russian Federation and Georgia, PRIME reported.

Deputy head of the public relations and events department at SOCAR Ibrahim Ahmadov said that it was Russia that requested Azerbaijan to allow to temporarily transit its gas.

"Temporary repair work is underway on North Caucasus-Transcaucasia pipeline. For this reason, the Russian side requested Azerbaijan to allow to temporarily transit its natural gas to Georgia through its territory and the sides reached an agreement on paid transit," he said.

North Caucasus-Transcaucasia pipeline runs through Russia, Georgia and Armenia. Its transportation capacity stands at 16 million cubic meters of gas per day.
