Russian theaters of the South Caucasus are coming to Russia

Theatres from the South Caucasus countries – the Russian Theater of Samed Vurgun, the Tbilisi Theatre of Griboyedov and the Yerevan Theater of Stanislavsky – in the coming season are going on tour to Russia. The Director General of the Federal Center for support of tour activities, Anton Prokhorov, told Vestnik Kavkaza at a press-conference devoted to the beginning of the first concert tour of LPR and DPR theaters in the cities of the Russian Federation.

The tour will take place in the framework of the federal program, which aims to restore creative contacts with Russian theaters abroad, he explained.

"This year, the Federal Center for support of tour activities develops, and the Ministry of Culture finances, a program called 'Program for supporting Russian theaters abroad'. That is, we are talking about the resumption of cooperation and creative relationships with theaters located in the neighboring countries, which perform in the Russian language. About 10 projects are planned in the framework of this program. It is like a tour of leading Russian collectives in neighboring countries, and the arrival of Russian theaters abroad to Russia, which will play on the stages of Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities," Prokhorov said.

Which plays the Russian audiences will see are not known yet, but they most likely will be plays based on works of classical literature.

"In the Yerevan theater we are currently negotiating with Frederick Davtyan, its director. Talks with Nikolai Nikolaevich Sventitsky are being held, he is a remarkable director of the Tbilisi Theatre, which is currently preparing to celebrate its anniversary. It is the oldest theater performing in the Russian language outside of Russia," Prokhorov added.
