Russia’s permanent representative to UN appointed

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Vasily Nebenzya to the position of the Russian Permanent Representative to the UN. The relevant decree was posted on the Kremlin’s website today.

"To appoint Nebenzya Vasily Alexeyevich Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, the USA, and Russia’s representative at the UN Security Council," the document reads.

Another presidential decree has relieved Nebenzya of his duties as Russian Deputy Foreign Minister.

Vasily Nebenzya was born in Russia's Volgodrad region on February 26, 1962. He has been appointed Deputy Foreign Minister on June 3, 2013, he speaks English and Spanish.

 

Nebenzya used to head the Foreign Ministry’s Department for Humanitarian Cooperation and Human Rights. From 1996 to 2000, he had served as senior adviser at the Russian Permanent Mission to the United Nations. In 2006-2012, he had served as Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva.
