Russia’s Central Electoral Commission to hold first meeting in its new composition

The Russian Central Electoral Commission will hold the first meeting in its new composition today. CEC members will determine who will be the chairman of the committee.and choose the secretary of the Central Electoral Commission and deputies.

The first session of the new convocation will start at 10.00. According to regulations of the Central Electoral Commission, it will be opened by the oldest committee member, Valery Kryukov.

6 of 15 members retained their posts in the structure: Valery Kryukov, Maya Grishina, Boris Yebzeyev, Anton Lopatin, Siyabshah Shapiev and Yevgeni Kolyushin.

The new members of the commission became Russia’s human rights ombudsman Ella Pamfilova, a former vice-speaker of the State Duma Nikolai Levichev (A Just Russia), former State Duma deputies Valery Galchenko (the United Russia), Vasily Likhachev (the Communist Party) and Sergey Sirotkin (the Liberal Democratic Party), a former member of the Federation Council Nikolai Bulaev, the publicist Alexander Klyukin, the former deputy head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service, Alexander Kinev, and the Patriots of Russia’s representative in the CEC Yevgeny Shevchenko.

According to experts, Ella Pamfilova has the greatest chance of taking the post of chairman of the Central Electoral Commission, TASS reports.

Recall, the Central Electoral commission is formed for a period of five years. Five of its members are appointed by the State Duma, five by the Federation Council and another five by the Russian president.
