The health condition of former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, who is undergoing treatment at a Tbilisi hospital, is critical and if his weight loss continues, it may lead to irreversible processes, doctor at the Georgian ombudsman's office Georgi Grigolia said.
"Cachexia is getting worse. What is happening to Saakashvili is natural: he is losing weight, there is a process of destruction of muscle and already bone tissue. This is happening because he is not receiving adequate treatment," Grigolia told reporters.
According to him, if "the weight of the politician decreases to 55 kilograms, irreversible processes will begin and he will be confined to bed." The doctor said that Saakashvili currently weighs 64 kilograms but the trend of weight loss is still there.
Doctors of the ombudsman's office examined Saakashvili on February 19.
