Saudi Arabia and Iran engaged in talks to improve ties

Saudi Arabian and Iranian officials are conducting direct negotiations in order to restore relations between their countries, the Financial Times reported, citing sources.

According to the sources, the first round of talks took place on April 9 in Baghdad, when the parties raised the issue of systematic attacks on the territory of the kingdom by members of the Ansar Allah rebel movement (the Houthi movement), the negotiations were positive.

According to the newspaper, the negotiation process is facilitated, in particular, by Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, who in March held talks with Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.

The governments of Iraq and Iran declined to comment on the report.
