Scott Hesington and Barry Anderson: Azerbaijan shocked us

Azerbaijan shocked us with its beauty and professional approach to international tournaments, professional mascots of the NBA Scott Hesington and Barry Anderson said today in an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza.

"I don't know much about gymnastics. Scott used to teach gymnastics, so he know more about events and technical things, but I don't think either of us has ever performed at gymnastics event as a mascot. Also not on this level, internationally. Which presents a challenge, since we have to learn the rules of the event, they're different in basketball. Learn the rules when to make noise, when be funny, when not to be funny. It takes couple of days to learn," Barry Anderson said.

"Azerbaijan is not a well-known country in the Western world. So we didn't know much about the country. We didn't know it would be so modern and so developed. We just didn't know. We both performed internationally a lot, some of the places we go, even in big cities, their facilities, their city is not as developed and as modern as we thought. So we thought Azerbaijan may be along the same lines. Whe we got here we both were shocked," Scott Hesington said.

"From the second we landed at the airport: incredible, beautiful, the buildings, the architecture, we have never seen anything like this. And the arena is a shock. We didn't think we would be in anythings so modern and well-organized. It was a great surprise," he added.

The 26th European Championships in Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini-Trampoline is currently held in Baku. More than 400 gymnasts from 25 countries are expected to participate in it. In the first two days of the competitions, qualifications for all types of events both among junior and senior gymnasts as well as finals among teams were held, on the last day, medalists will be known in all four types of the gymnastics events.
