Second round of presidential elections begins in France

In France polling stations opened at 9:00 Moscow time on Sunday. The second and decisive round of the presidential election is taking place there.

The current President Emmanuel Macron and the leader of the extreme right-wing "National Union" Marine Le Pen face each other in the second round of the presidential elections the second time in a row. Five years earlier, in 2017, Le Pen lost to Macron, RIA Novosti reports.

Polling stations in most French communes will be open until 20:00 Moscow time, and in large cities - in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Bordeaux, Toulouse and others - they will work until 21:00 Moscow time.

Let us remind you that the President of France is elected for five years by direct universal suffrage. About 49 million voters can take part in the elections. Voting takes place in two rounds, the first was held on April 10, 12 candidates took part in it.

The French Constitutional Council will announce the official results of the presidential elections on April 27 - 28.
