Moscow City Hall awarded the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for the restoration of the 'Azerbaijan' pavilion at VDNKh, the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza reported.
Opening the ceremony, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that restoration is "a socially significant work that is estimated, without any exaggeration, by millions of people." "For example, the complex of cultural monuments located at VDNKh today attracts not millions, but tens of millions of people who would never have gone there, if there wasn't such a large-scale reconstruction and restoration," he said.
Addressing the restorers, the mayor, on behalf of the Moscow citizens, thanked them for their "completely unique work." In addition, Sobyanin expressed his gratitude to investors, federal executive bodies and private companies. "The city needs this. And I’m sure that what our cooperation will continue in the coming years," the Moscow Mayor emphasized.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation received the special Moscow Restoration-2019 competition award for "organizing repair and restoration work at the 'Azerbaijan' Pavilion. The award was presented to Advisor to the Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Azer Bayramov.
The 'Azerbaijan' pavilion was built in 1939. Authors of the project were famous Azerbaijani architects Sadikh Dadashev and Mikail Huseynov. In 1966, the pavilion was fully concealed behind a false facade. As a result, the historic appearance of the building remained hidden from visitors for decades. In 2017, the pavilion was officially transferred to Azerbaijan, and restoration works with the support of the Azerbaijani government began there. The pavilion was opened by First Vice President of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva and Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko on November 23.
