A court in Prague has reportedly suspended consideration of extradition issue of Narek Sargsyan, who is the nephew of former Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan, the Zhamanak daily reported.

Narek Sargsyan, put by Armenian law-enforcement authorities on wanted list for a string of crimes, had been located with the assistance of Interpol and detained in Prague last year. Narek Sargsyan was said to have been carrying a fake Guatemalan passport of Franklin Gonzales.

According to the daily. Narek Sargsyan's extradition is required by the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia. "According to the information that has come down to us, Czech law enforcement agencies have suspended the extradition proceedings, having redirected Narek Sargsyan to the refugee camp. At the same time, a separate case is being investigated in the Czech Republic regarding the acquisition of a fake passport by him," ARKA cited the article as saying.

"The Armenian Prosecutor’s Office has not been officially informed by the Czech side about the release and refusal to extradite Narek Sargsyan. At present, the process of transferring this person to the law-enforcement bodies of Armenia continues," the General Prosecutor's Office said in comment to the daily.

A criminal case was launched against Narek Sargsyan on June 26, 2018 on charges of illegal acquisition, sale, storage, transportation and carrying of weapons, ammunition, explosives devices, as well as illegal sale, manufacture of drugs, psychotropic drugs and their precursors.
