The spiritual leader of the Islamist movement the Muslim Brotherhood, which is forbidden in Egypt, Muhammad Badia, has received a life sentence in the case of an attack on a police station in Port Said in 2013. The sentence was handed down today by the Criminal Court of Port Said in Egypt.
Other leaders of the movement also received life sentences today – Muhammad al-Beltagi and Safwat Higyazi, RIA Novosti reported.
Muhammad Badia has already received two death penalties and one life sentence for other crimes commited in 2011-2013.
The leaders and more than 100 members of the Muslim Brotherhood are accused of organizing and executing the attack on the police station in August 2013, when the Islamist president Muhammad Morsi was overthrown. Five police officers were killed during the attack, all the weapons were stolen.
