State Department: Putin-Trump talks "not deeply substantive"

Discussions between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin were not deeply substantive, the State Department's assistant secretary for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Aaron Wess Mitchell, said.

During a hearing on U.S. relations with Moscow yesterday, Mitchell said that discussions between Trump and Putin were "not deeply substantive."

"The only agreement that came out of Helsinki was for the two national security counsels to meet again, which they are doing this week," CNN cited Mitchell as saying.

The assistant secretary later added that he has "received the information I need to do my job as it relates to Russia."

Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump's national security adviser John Bolton in Geneva on August 23.
