Syria can buy Russia's military aircraft and helicopters to create its own full-fledged group, after its economy will be restored after the war, the former commander of Russia's Aerospace Force and Chairman of the Federation Council Defense and Security Committee Viktor Bondarev said.
"Russia timely updated the composition of its aerospace forces. Great aircraft and helicopters allow us to destroy scoundrels at distant approaches," he said, explaining that the Syrian army also should be equipped with such weapons.
In this regard, the senator recalled that the Syrian army suffered serious losses due to outdated aircraft at the beginning of the war. "I'm talking about MiG-21, Su-17. They have another weapon system that does not allow to hit targets with high accuracy," Bondarev said, adding that now the main task of the Syrian government is the restoration of economy and infrastructure, RIA Novosti reports.
