Tajikistan says yeas to constitutional amendments

The vast majority of the citizens of Tajikistan voted for the amendments to the Constitution at the referendum, the head of the Central Election Commission of Tajikistan Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda said.

"3,000,814 people (94.5%) voted for the amendments, 134,171 people (3.3%) voted against, RIA Novosti reports.

According to the CEC, the voter turnout reached 92% (4.038 million people).

During the voting the citizens of Tajikistan were to express their attitude to the 41 amendments to the Constitution. The most important of them allows the Founder of Peace and National Unity, the leader of the nation, (this status has the head of state Emomali Rahmon since December of the last year) to hold the presidency an unlimited number of times.
