Taliban seeks friendly football match against Russia

The Taliban movement (banned in Russia) would like to see a friendly football match played between the national teams of Afghanistan and Russia, the Afghani acting minister of Labor and Social Affairs Abdul Manan Omari said on the sidelines of the 2024 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

According to the minister, the Afghan football team is good and plays well.

"We are anxious to hold a football match between our countries," the acting minister said.

Afghanistan is currently ranked in 151st place in the rating list of the world global football body, FIFA Rankings, where Russia holds 35th place.
