A reception in honor of the 85th anniversary of the famous Georgian film director and screenwriter Eldar Shengelaia will be held today in the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia.
The event was organized by the National Center for Cinematography of Georgia and the Georgian Film Academy, Sputnik Georgia reported.
Eldar Shengelaia was born on January 26, 1933 in Tbilisi. He directed ten films between 1957 and 1996. From 1990 to 2004, he was a member of the Parliament of Georgia. He has been awarded the titles of the People's Artist of Georgia and of the Soviet Union. He has been a chairman of the Film-makers' Union of Georgia since 1976. Since 2008, he has been chairman of the State Council of Heraldry at the Parliament of Georgia.
