A terrorist attack has taken place in Munich at the largest Olympia mall. At least, three men opened fire on visitors center, Mass Media cites Interior Minister of Bavaria, Joachim Herrmann, as saying.

"Witnesses said about three different men with firearms,’’ Russia Today cites the text  by police with a reference to Bild.

According to law enforcement officers, the criminals were armed with rifles. They managed to escape from the shopping center along with their weapons.

At least, eight people reported killed after a shooting at the Olympia shopping mall in Munich, BBC reported.

According to Munich police spokesman Thomas Baumann, the attack started at a fast food restaurant in the mall, shortly before 6 p.m. He was quoted as saying that police didn't know whether they were dealing with one or more shooters.

Law enforcers characterize the situation in the city as tense. "Most likely, it was an act of terrorism,’’ Tass cites a representative of police. However, later, the police spokesman said that the current events are not tied with ‘Islamic terrorism’.

According to unofficial data, one of the criminals were killed, but this official information has not been confirmed yet.

The official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, said that Russian diplomats are keeping in touch with the German side.

"Our German colleagues assured that, firstly, they will inform us about what is happening now. And, of course, they will inform the Russian side,’’ she said.

Zakharova recalled that it is not recommended walking on the streets of Munich. "The Munich police also made an official statement, warning citizens and foreigners of avoiding public and crowded places. We also strongly recommend Russians in Munich follow the instructions of the German police and avoid crowded and public places," the official representative of the Russian diplomatic agency said.
