Terrorist attack prevented in Russia's Saratov

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has eliminated a member of the ISIS terrorist organization (banned in Russia), who set up a laboratory to produce explosives, and was conspiring to carry out a terror attack in a crowded area, in Saratov, the FSB Public Relations Center said.

The FSB noted that "having sworn fealty to the leadership of the terrorist organization and acting under its command, the Russian national purchased weapons of destruction and components to produce improvised explosive devices in a makeshift laboratory for synthesizing explosive substances in Saratov."

"The felon put up armed resistance to his arrest and was neutralized by the FSB. Neither officers nor civilians were injured," TASS cited the federal law enforcement agency as saying.

Small arms, munitions, an improvised explosive device, as well as components for making some booby-trapped explosives were seized, in addition a criminal investigation has been launched.
