The Russian National Anti-Terrorism Committee has announced that a legal regime of counter-terrorism operations has been lifted in Dagestan's Derbent and Makhachkala.
The counterterrorist operation introduced on June 23 was lifted at 08:15 Moscow time.
Unknown individuals attacked two Orthodox churches, two synagogues and a traffic police station in Derbent and Makhachkala on Sunday.
Dagestan's head Sergey Melikov described the incident as an attempt to destabilize society.
The National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) said that five militants were neutralized in the course of the counterterrorist operation in Dagestan. Sergey Melikov said that six militants were killed.
Victimes
More than fifteen police officers became victims of the militant’s attack in Dagestan. Several civilians were also killed as a result of the terrorist act, including Father Nikolay.
The three-day mourning is announced in Dagestan due to attacks of militants.
According to the region's head, the situation in Dagestan after the terrorist acts in Makhachkala and Derbent is under control of authorities and law enforcement agencies.
"More than fifteen police officers fell victims of the today’s terrorist act, protecting peace and calmness of Dagestan," he said in a video posted on the Telegram channel.
Several civilians were also killed as a result of the terrorist act, including Father Nikolay, who served for more than forty years in the Orthodox church in Derbent, he added.
Reaction
The presidents of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan expressed condolences in connection with the terrorist attack in the cities of Dagestan. The terrorist attacks in Dagestan were also condemned by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
