According to a new CNN/ORC poll, 48% of Americans believe that the the Russian government is attempting to influence the outcome of the US presidential elections and 44% believe the opposite.
At the same time, more often this statement was supported by the US Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton backers (60%), than by supporters of the Republican candidate Donald Trump (33%).
8% of the participants abstained from responding the question of "On the basis of what you have seen and heard, do you think that the Russian government is attempting to influence the outcome of the US presidential elections?"
According o the poll, 37% of Americans see Russia as an unfriendly country. Two years ago, the share of such respondents was 52%, five years ago - 28%. According to a new study, 31% of respondents see Russia as a friendly state, 8% regard it as an ally, 21% of participants see Russia as the United States enemy, RIA Novosti reports.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia has carefully avoided any actions that could be interpreted as influence on the electoral process, calling suchaccusations absurd.
The survey was conducted amid accusations of US politicians, including representatives of Hillary Clinton's staff, that Russia was involved in the hacking of the US Democratic National Committee's servers.
