Thousands of security guards to keep Erdogan safe in Vatican

As many as 3500 representatives of security forces will keep Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan safe during his visit to Vatican, the Turkish media reported.

As part of his visit to Vatican, Erdogan will meet with Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

Erdogan will visit Vatican at the invitation of Pope Francis on February 5. This will be the first visit of senior Turkish official to Vatican over the past 59 years at the level of the country’s president.

As part of the visit, it is expected to discuss the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Pope Francis made an official visit to Ankara in late 2014.
