An outstanding Azerbaijani sculptor-monumentalist, laureate of the State Prizes of the USSR and Azerbaijan, Chevalier of the Shohrat order, the national artist, professor Tokay Mammadov died, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Education reported today.
Tokay Mammadov was born on July 18, 1927 in Baku in the family of the first female sculptor Ziver Mammadova and head of the Department of Researches and Theoretical Mechanics at the Polytechnic Institute, Habib Mammadov. He graduated from the Art College in Baku and the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (now the Ilya Repin St. Petersburg State Academic Institute of Fine Arts, Sculpture and Architecture).
